Computer Software in Horse Race Betting

Download all the data - Press a button - “SuperHorseExpert” computes all the information and predicts with unfailing accuracy the finishing order of the first race of the day. A perfect start to what you know will be yet another profitable day at the racetrack with your own computer racing program.

It’s a dream at the moment, certainly for the vast majority of horse race bettors, but, could it ever become true?

Of course not really, because if there was a program as accurate as this, everyone would have it, odds would shorten dramatically and those wonderful profits would disappear as quickly as they came.

There is a huge variety of computer horse racing software already on the market, all promising to help us, the betting public, find more winners. I have tried a good number of them, varying from simple software where you enter basic data such as form figures, days since last run etc to full scale form book databases which take into account a huge number of factors in predicting future race results. Whichever, if any you use, is a matter of personal choice and depends on the price you are prepared to pay and what you want your program to do.

What must be remembered though is that, in my opinion, there is not one piece of sofware that will provide a long term profit by simply backing on the top rated selections in all races. You cannot simply enter the data (if required), press the button, make the bet, collect the money and make a profit.

No, what you have to do is to see computer software for what it is. It is a help, and it can be a wonderful addition to your betting armoury if you use it correctly.

Computers are number crunchers. Decent horse racing software can carry out hundreds, thousands of numerical calculations in seconds that would take you or I hours to do. Use your software where it counts; let it assess ratings, distance beaten, weight carried, timings - anything numerical. Your software will produce ratings which, based purely on the numbers, will be accurate, BUt and here is the caveat.

Horse racing is a living, dynamic entity which takes account of existing facts (the numbers or statistics that you already have) but adds in new ones for every second that a horse race takes place.

This is why your computer software is only your, very valuable, assistant. It can process far better tha you what went before, but you as a human, living, dynamic bettor are far better able to take account of new facts or in other words to consider what might happen in the future.

You must use your own personal knowledge, based on your own analysis, to take account of today’s conditions, how today’s race could be run, tactics required by trainers and employed by jockeys and all the other dynamic factors which will affect the race as it unfolds. Couple this analysis with your compuer software’s assistance and then profits are possible.

So, use your software, and use it every day, but do not become a slavish follower of the predictions it makes. The poor house will be the only result.
